Message My point is that red300zxtt's statement is correct: if the tires slip, there is very little shock.

red300zxtt's cause and effect statement is correct, I mentioned that in my post - I guess you missed that part. The part you missed was where the tires are not breaking loose, so his "point" is completely moot. zboost is launching @ 7k rpms, and the slicks are not slipping. If they were, he wouldn't be breaking the half-shafts. My point was that red300zxtt's statement that he isn't launching at high enough rpms is completely baseless as you can't get too much higher than 7k rpms.

(There is no need for the surface to actually be frictionless, that was just a logical extreme I used to illustrate the point.) Your rebuttal that the shock "happens before they break loose" is nonsensical.

You missed the context of my statement. The shock happens before they break loose because they don't break loose at all.

The rest of your analysis, posted later, seems correct to me. Either zboost needs to get a clutch that can slip and still survive like the carbon-carbon clutch used by ZHound, or he needs to alter his technique to aleviate driveline shock in some other way, for instance by getting some wheelspin as proposed by red300zxtt.

"Getting some wheelspin" is hardly the solution to his problem, and will not result in a good run. You want as much traction as possible without ruining your driveline, hence the quick-slip technique.

Ask pretty much anyone who has had more than two runs on the drag strip, completely dumping the clutch at a maximum rpm as red300zxtt has suggested is going to result in a bad run, either spinning wildly or if they slicks grab, you're going to have massive driveline damage.

Recursively Yours,
Kenny...
